How a tiler prices a job in Cameroon
A tiling quote is four items: area + 10% waste (cuts), adhesive (≈ 1 bag per 5 m²), grout (≈ 0.5 kg/m²) and laying. In standard porcelain (11 000 FCFA/m²), a room works out to about 19 000 FCFA/m² laid. The classic trap: forgetting waste and adhesive, and underbidding the job.
Many tilers quote by guesswork and lose money on cuts and adhesive. Here is the clean, item-by-item method, at 2026 prices from the SangoImmo catalogue.
1. The material: the tiles
Price per m² depends on the tile type. Here are the orders of magnitude in Cameroon (supply, excluding laying):
Always allow 8–12% waste for cuts (edges, corners, patterns): for 12 real m², buy 14 m². See the detail on our floor-tile price page.
2. The consumables: adhesive and grout
- Tile adhesive: 6 500 FCFA a bag, covering about 5 m² with single buttering. For 12 m², you need 3 bags.
- Grout: 1 200 FCFA/kg, about 0.5 kg/m² depending on joint width.
These two items, often forgotten, genuinely move the quote.
3. The laying: labour
Laying is priced per m² (indicative rate 4 000 FCFA/m² for a standard format, more for large formats, diagonal laying or patterns). This is the item to adjust for complexity and region.
Full example: a 12 m² room
| Item | Calculation | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Tiles (incl. 10% waste) | 14 m² × 11 000 FCFA | 154 000 FCFA |
| Adhesive | 3 bag(s) × 6 500 FCFA | 19 500 FCFA |
| Grout | 6 kg × 1 200 FCFA | 7 200 FCFA |
| Laying labour | 12 m² × 4 000 FCFA | 48 000 FCFA |
| Total | 19 058 FCFA/m² | 228 700 FCFA |
That is about 19 000 FCFA/m² laid, all in. Change the tile type or the laying rate and the total moves — exactly what the app recomputes live.
Producing a clean quote in minutes
Rather than redoing the math by hand for every room, SangoImmo computes quantities automatically (tiles + waste, bags of adhesive, kg of grout) from your areas, applies your prices and produces a readable line-by-line quote. You can exclude a line, add a service, and send the deposit by Mobile Money. Cross-check your unit prices against the materials prices guide.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I work out how much tile a room needs?
- Measure the floor area in m², add 8–12% waste for cuts, then round up to the next m² (or box). Example: for 12 real m², plan for 14 m² of tiles.
- How much does tile laying cost per m² in Cameroon?
- In standard porcelain (11 000 FCFA/m² supply), a room works out to about 19 000 FCFA/m² all in (tiles + waste, adhesive, grout and laying). The indicative laying rate is about 4 000 FCFA/m² and rises with large formats or diagonal laying.
- Which items get forgotten in a tiling quote?
- Waste on cuts, bags of adhesive, and grout. These are the omissions that turn a job into a loss. Always count them, on top of the laying.
- How do I produce a tiling quote quickly?
- With SangoImmo: enter the areas, the app computes quantities (tiles + waste, adhesive, grout), applies your prices and produces an editable detailed quote in FCFA, with a Mobile Money deposit — free and offline.
