The price in the unit you actually buy
| Block | Each | Blocks / m² | Per m² of wall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hollow block 20 cm | 425 FCFA | 12.5 | 5 325 FCFA |
| Hollow block 15 cm | 350 FCFA | 12.5 | 4 375 FCFA |
| Hollow block 12 cm | 305 FCFA | 12.5 | 3 825 FCFA |
| Hollow block 10 cm | 275 FCFA | 12.5 | 3 450 FCFA |
About 12.5 blocks go into a m² of wall. The m² figure is blocks only — laying mortar (roughly a quarter of a bag of cement per m²) and render are separate lines.
The 15 and 20 cm prices are surveyed. The 10 and 12 cm ones are derived: block cost tracks the volume of the mix, and the two measured sizes describe a gradient of 15 FCFA per centimetre of width (350 → 425 FCFA across 5 cm), which is what is applied below 15. They are indicative, and they are the sizes the engine will not use for a load-bearing wall. Enter your own supplier's price in the app for any format.
What it is used for
The 20 cm hollow block is used for load-bearing and façade walls, the 15 cm one for interior partitions; 12 and 10 cm blocks are for light partitions and carry no load. About 12.5 blocks are laid per m² of wall whatever the thickness — it is the 20×20×40 face that sets the count, not the width. The compressed earth block (CEB) is an affordable, thermally efficient local alternative.
Quantities, brands and buying tips
How many blocks per m²?
About 12.5 blocks per m² of wall are laid (20×20×40 or 15×20×40 cm block), with ≈ 0.02 m³ of mortar per m². The 20 cm block is for load-bearing and façade walls, the 15 cm for partitions, the 10 cm for light partitions.
Concrete block, CEB or fired brick?
- Hollow concrete block — most common, fast to lay, cheap.
- Compressed earth block (CEB) — affordable local alternative, better thermal mass (cooler interior).
- Fired brick — durable and attractive, more expensive.
Buying tips
- Insist on a proper cement dose (blocks that don't crumble) and 28-day curing.
- Check squareness and absence of cracks — informally made blocks vary in quality.
- Have them made on site to save transport when the volume justifies it.
